Odds & Ends

We've been kind of busy for a while now and focusing on other things besides the site. While income is not our primary goal, when the President signed legislation essentially outlawing bank transactions with Internet gambling sites, it took away our income stream. Hence, for the time being, we're doing this for free.

Something did come up a couple of weeks ago, and I kind of feel obliged to report on it-and the report will be up momentarily...

Paladin Needs Some Love
Written by Paladin

“It’s hard out here for a pimp.”

-Three 6 Mafia, from Hustle & Flow*

“I don’t get no respect”

                                    -Rodney Dangerfield (1921-2004)

I need some love. What does a guy have to do here to get some respect? First, I hear that the 15-11 Deuces is now being called in some circles the “Singer Deuces”. Umm….Rob, my man, I was playing those Singer Deuces a good two years before you were, and I can probably name all the properties they were offered at (Grand Victoria, Elgin IL, a couple places in northern NV, and last but not least, Railroad Pass in Henderson and Circus Circus and Wynn in LV. I published a cheat sheet for the game (scroll back in the blog for it), before Dancer taught the class at Silverton ((or was planning to). At the very least it should be called “Mandalay Deuces”, or even “Paladin Deuces”, although yours’ truly, like most true gaming professionals, demurs from publicity. That being said, it is a fun game, a little more technical than 16-10, I wish more casinos would offer it.

Then my business partner gets beat up a little bit about the Dancer article. The complainant, a whale who is smarter than most, had a few words about Bob’s most recent missive (BTW, do y’all notice a pattern here? Bob, if you’re going to use me as inspiration for your material, at least give me some credit). As for Bob, who wrote that an edge of .228 (actually .2278, but Bob plays NSUD better than I) was “juicy”, I’m only curious about one thing; anyone know his favorite flavor of Kool-Aid?. Oh yeah, he left out one little tiny unimportant detail, the cognoscenti know what I’m talking about here, and I’m going to leave it alone except to make one point, which was made by the whale, and I agree with wholeheartedly. I’ve beaten up the Palms and Dancer enough, and while I always feel better afterward, I don’t feel so great I need to smoke a cigarette, if you get my drift.

Bob wrote a number of articles about MGM Grand when he was playing there. No one took either him or the articles seriously, until Bob went on a serious positive flux, which led to Bob’s being restricted there and a number of execs losing their jobs for not being able to do simple arithmetic. They mistook Bob Dancer for Bob Singer or Rob Singer or whatever, some guy coming off as a total sucker. One would think that Bob would have to learn this lesson just once. Apparently, he has either forgotten, or is truly not that smart (I have repeatedly pegged him as a “B” talent**, and nothing I’ve seen over the last five years or so has changed that opinion). So Bob, since I know you read me, think y’all can do us all a favor and not write about what’s a great play and what isn’t? I know the Maloofs would rather play with girls whose last names end in months and are too busy with the rabbits, the puppies and the kittens to care about VP, but you never know, one day they might. Or if Ron Artest sets them off again, or something like that. Please, pretty please, with sugar on top?

Finally, I had this really groovy, PhD quality analysis about 2007, but it got blown up by a couple of things happening. I need to rewrite it a little bit, but short term, all these companies going private won’t be good for the player, as they are going to have to find a way for paying for what they essentially overpaid for (the HET buyout was definitely over top of the market, the proposed Stations one a little high, but they should be ok, assuming the LV RE market continues to grow, as most analysts expect it to in the future; they will likely shed some properties as well).

I’ll leave you at this point. I think Local LV will still be ok. Even though a key play may disappear, key plays seem to pop up all the time, you just have to know where to look. In AC expect some more tightening up, actually, AC has changed from very good to marginally playable as a whole over the last 3-4 months. The sleepers may be for those living within a 4 hours’ drive of Toronto. The EV may well be there, if you don’t mind the schlep, also no W2-Gs in Canada, but no shortage of heat crossing the border from US Customs. There are a number of plays from Detroit to Niagara Falls NY, nothing spectacular, but ranging from marginal to stable to ok.

* a great little film, but probably too hip or too street for most of the membership. The song quoted from actually won last year's Oscar for best song.

** I have to keep hammering this point home to some of you, but here we go again. I'm not going to write a book to gain cred with the masses. Those who write are for the most part, second or third tier talents. The one exception was Doyle Brunson, but even then, most of Super System was ghostwritten by Mike Caro, whom they build games around in Los Angeles.

If you knew that Bobby Singer and Rob Singer are two different people, give yourself a gold star. Kiss
